Hello and welcome to Baking with Bridget! It is a pleasure to “meet” you. I created this blog to help, encourage and inspire you to create a happy, healthy, homemade life free of gluten! You won’t believe all the delicious gluten-free recipes, simple tips and inspiration that are waiting for you!
I grew up in the Midwest on down-home cooking. Dining out was rare. Supper consisted of meat, potatoes, vegetables and Wonder bread. My love for taking care of a home, especially baking and cooking, began in Mrs. Norton’s 7th grade Home Economics class. From that year until I graduated high school, I took every home economics class offered.
By the time I was 15, I was cooking most of the daily meals and even meals for company! On the weekends, I would spend time baking cookies or cakes. My dad said after I left home he lost 10 pounds.
A Peek Inside My Life
I am a down-to-earth, cookin’ from scratch kind of gal. I love the simple things in life, including gardening, fabric, chocolate, and vintage linens. In my spare time, I Promise Stitch (a historic form of hand quilting), hand embroidery, and read. I love tooling around in the desert with my husband and our dogs Marmalade and Buck. It would not be home without our two kitties Charlie and Grace. My motto is to create beauty every day!
I have lived a life of gluten freedom since 2009. You know, becoming gluten-free can be overwhelming, scary and downright depressing! (Click here to read my Gluten-Free Transformation Story.) I thought I would never be able to bake or eat delicious desserts again. Boy, am I glad I was wrong. I love the challenge of taking “gluten laden” recipes and converting them to gluten-free!
Looking back, what an amazing journey it has been. I never, ever imagined having my own website! Oh my gosh! In December 2016, I self-published my first ever gluten-free cookbook! It was so much fun! I recently published my third book in the Baking with Bridget series.
I hear so many people say how intimidated they are to eat and bake gluten-free. Yes, it is challenging when you first start eating gluten-free. Yes, it is downright hard. Before you know it, it just becomes a way of life and you will not think twice about eating gluten-free. (If you are new to gluten-freeclick here.) Baking gluten-free is not harder, just different. Just like when you first started baking gluten laden goodies, you will have some turn out less than perfect. Although their appearance may not be what you hoped for, they will make up for it in taste! While I have thought about my own bakery, my website is even better because I get to share my love of baking from my kitchen!
Although I have lived in the southwest for over 25 years, I have kept my Midwest roots when it comes to cooking. You won’t find bizarre ingredients that you have never heard of in my recipes. They are made with all natural ingredients and that extra special ingredient, love!
Rain or shine, my favorite place is in my kitchen where cooking gluten-free is easy as pie!

Home is where my heart is. Like life, my home is far from perfect. However, it is filled to the brim with love and there is plenty of laughter to boot! If you drop by for a visit you will probably find me either in the kitchen baking or taking a break stitching on my latest quilt. After a lovely chat over a cup of tea, you will probably leave with a tummy full of homemade cookies and a dog hair or two on you!
